GK
Sick show last night, by the way.
Greentea Peng
Aw thank you.
GK
Loved it. Highlight so far, definitely. You ready to go into it then?
Greentea Peng
Yeah, yeah.
GK
Well, firstly, have you been to WOMAD before?
Greentea Peng
No, this is my first WOMAD. I'm very excited to be here.
GK
Have you had a chance to explore?
Greentea Peng
Yeah, I've been camping actually, here with my kid and my mum, my sister...
GK
Oh, nice.
Greentea Peng
Yeah, a few members of the family. We've been chilling. It's nice. Yeah, super wholesome festival. Really nice.
GK
Yeah, are there any highlights for you so far?
Greentea Peng
Barrington (Levy) was crazy. I just bought myself some tuning fork pitched at 111 hertz.
GK
What does it do?
Greentea Peng
I mean, it's vibrations. Creates vibrations, tone, and each one is associated with a different characteristic, you know. So this is 111 hertz. This lady just told me all about it. Anyway, it felt amazing.
GK
Oh, sick.
Greentea Peng
So yeah, the shops here are pretty sweet as well. Bought myself a little mini hang drum. Yeah, man, I'm feeling it. NTS stage was sick last night. Really good DJ there. I never got his name, unfortunately.
GK
Yeah, cool. I was going to ask - the concept of WOMAD is world music, world culture. How important do you think it is to have a stage for that, showcasing culture from all around the world?
Greentea Peng
Yeah, super important. I think being from London, we're kind of spoiled with that anyway, and probably Bristol as well. I mean, you know, it's a nice place for it to all come together and just be celebrated in one encapsulation. It's cool, man. I've discovered some really cool sounds today.

GK
I've got a couple of abstract questions that I like to ask to everyone that I interview. I always try to draw the connection between sound and colour, because I'm a very visual person. So the first one - the answer might be obvious, but I'm going to ask it anyway. If you could describe your music or your sound in one colour, what would it be?
Greentea Peng
One colour? I don't know. I don't really think like that. I don't feel like I'm a very visual person. I guess I kind of got to say green, innit. I mean it feels pretty green to me. Yeah, it's pretty green.
GK
Yeah, I thought that might be the one. I agree.
Greentea Peng
Yeah, it's green.
GK
And the second one, if your music was the soundtrack to a film, which film do you reckon it would be?
Greentea Peng
I don't think the film's been made yet, bro. I haven't seen it anyway. For my music, I don't know. Yeah, definitely nothing made in Hollywood.
GK
Yeah, really? Nothing comes to mind - none of your favourite films where you think one of your songs could be in that?
Greentea Peng
I would love to have some of my music in Harry Potter.
GK
Yeah?
Greentea Peng
Yeah, I love Harry Potter. That would be sick. But I don't really see that happening hahaha. But if I could choose, like some Lord of the Rings shit. Yeah, maybe. I don't think it would suit it, but it would be cool.
GK
I didn't expect that to be fair, but I love that.

GK
One of the highlights for me from your set last night was when you took a moment to talk - and get the audience to think about people less fortunate than we are, to have the privilege to be here enjoying ourselves. How important is it for you to use your platform to vocalise that?
Greentea Peng
Yeah, it is important. I feel like it's important for everyone with a voice, however big or small, however amplified - to use their voice. Because it's less of a voice thing and more of a heart thing. We're one big human family, so obviously the people who have a platform and whose voices are amplified should be using that. But also every single person should be using their voice. So yeah, of course. I would feel like an absolute wasteman if I was on stage in front of thousands of people and didn't even stop for a second to think about my brothers and sisters suffering. I do think about it all the time. I don't take it for granted. It's important for all of us.
GK
Yeah, 100%. It's so important. So one of Bloom's main goals is to support up and coming, independent artists. If you could go back and talk to yourself when you started your musical journey, is there any particular advice that you would give to yourself?
Greentea Peng
Keep being yourself. Yeah, definitely. Don't be tempted to mould yourself. Don't dwell too much on how you may be perceived, and just delve wholeheartedly into yourself and express that. Even if that's not necessarily commercially viable.
GK
Yeah, love that. Final question I've just thought of is: if you wanted people to take one thing from your music, whether that's a feeling or something more literal, what would that be?
Greentea Peng
I would say some sunshine, but also some power, innit. Some zup zup. Hahaha.
GK
Sick! That's a wrap then. Thank you so much.
Greentea Peng
Thank you. Thank you for having me.
GK
Nice to meet you.
Greentea Peng
Nice to meet you too. Bloom Mag, big up. I rate that.
